Matrimonial and Family Law Group Joins Phillips Nizer’s Newly Expanded New Jersey Office
 
Phillips Nizer is pleased to announce that Jan L. Bernstein, a longtime leader of the New Jersey family law bar, has joined the firm as a partner along with two associates in its newly expanded Hackensack, New Jersey office, where she will Chair the Firm’s New Jersey Matrimonial and Family Law Practice.

Over her almost four-decade career exclusively practicing Family Law, Ms. Bernstein has gained renown for crafting creative solutions to complex and novel family law disputes.  She has represented a wide range of clients operating on both the national and international scene, including high net worth individuals, business owners, entrepreneurs, athletes and performers.

“With the addition of Jan, a pioneer practitioner in crafting effective representation for clients facing family law issues, Phillips Nizer can offer further assistance to our clients who need top-notch representation in family law matters across the metro area,” said Marc Landis, Managing Partner of Phillips Nizer.

Ms. Bernstein, who has been recognized by Who’s Who in American Law, has been appointed to five New Jersey Supreme Court Committees and served on the Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. She is a past Chair of the Women’s Rights Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Ms. Bernstein has authored numerous articles including in the New Jersey Family Lawyer, as well as other publications.  One of her articles is cited in NJ Statutes Annotated, entitled “Moving On After Moving In: The Case for Including Unmarried Partners in New Jersey Family Law.”  She served as a member of the Editorial Board of the New Jersey Lawyer Magazine and the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Lawyer newspaper.

In addition to her many professional activities, Ms. Bernstein is very involved at her alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania, where she played four years of varsity tennis, and was captain three of those years.  A strong advocate for gender equality in athletics, Ms. Bernstein has been inducted into two Athletic Halls of Fame.  She was an Associate Trustee of the University, appointed by the University President to the Board of Athletic Advisors, and is a member of the Trustee Council of Penn Women. 

Ms. Bernstein received her J.D. from Rutgers School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, magna cum laude.
