May Day 2026: National Day of NO WORK, NO SCHOOL, NO SHOPPING
Visibility Brigade & Clothing Drive: Workers Over Billionaires
Hawthorne, NJ — Friday, May 1, 2026 (4:30–6:30 PM) — Community members will gather at the Ethel Ave Pedestrian Bridge in Hawthorne for a powerful May Day action as part of a nationwide movement calling for NO WORK, NO SCHOOL, NO SHOPPING. Organized by Hawthorne’s Indivisible – The Resistance Alliance (led by Christine Rea-Briskin) and Wayne Indivisible (led by Dianne Douthat), this Visibility Brigade will center on the urgent message: WORKERS OVER BILLIONAIRES.
Participants will stand in solidarity with working people across the country, amplifying calls for economic fairness, democratic protections, and community-first policies. The event will also serve as a clothing drive benefiting Oasis – A Haven for Women & Children in Paterson, supporting women and children working to rebuild their lives and break cycles of poverty.
Building on a Strong Foundation of Community Action
This May Day event builds on the success of last year’s Visibility Brigades and community drives, including the Holiday Season “No One Should Go Hungry” food drive. That effort brought together residents from across the region to support local families facing food insecurity, demonstrating the power of combining public advocacy with direct mutual aid.
Organizers say this dual approach—raising awareness while meeting immediate needs—remains central to their mission.

Quote from Christine Rea-Briskin
“May Day is about showing what’s possible when ordinary people stand together and refuse to be overlooked. Last year, our community came through in a powerful way to support neighbors facing hunger. This year, we’re building on that spirit—raising our voices while also providing tangible support for women and children who need it most.
When people see us on that bridge, we want them to feel both the urgency of this moment and the strength of community. Whether you’re holding a sign, bringing a donation, or simply showing up, you are part of a growing movement that believes people should always come before profit.”
Call to Action
Community members are encouraged to:
- Join the Visibility Brigade
- Donate clothing to support local families
- Stand in solidarity with workers nationwide
Show up. Speak out. Support your neighbors. Together, we can build a future that puts people over profit.
