MAYFIELD ASKS ROSSMOOR ADULT COMM. CONDO TO RE-EVALUATE CASE

Heart-breaking situation of a special-needs elder couple over $1,700 in late fees

(East Brunswick N.J.) September 12 th , 2022 – Darius Mayfield, New Jersey’s
Congressional candidate for the 12 th district, is asking the Monroe-based Rossmoor
Adult Community condo board to re-evaluate the heart-breaking situation of a special
needs, elderly couple who have been slammed with $26,000 in legal bills over what
started out as $1,700 in late association fees.

At a time when Covid moratoriums were in place state-wide, these two elderly
people – an 88-year-old late-stage Alzheimer’s patient and her special needs partner
– were entangled in a seemingly endless loop of “catch-up” with the board and its
lawyers over $1,700 in late fees that spiralled into a lawsuit, an illegal lock-out, and
yet more bills.

While they’ve just been let back into their condo – bought and paid when housing
prices were much lower – their legal bills are growing by the day and they are at risk
of losing their home that was fully paid for years ago.

“Against the backdrop of Covid and all the tumult our current Administration has
wrought on ordinary people, it is incredibly alarming to hear how some of our most
vulnerable are being treated,” said Mayfield. “I’m urging the condo board to please
re-evaluate this heart-breaking situation and do what they can to help.”
