Mayor Gusciora Announces Cook School Redevelopment Plan

TRENTON, N.J. – Mayor Reed Gusciora and Trenton City Council members welcomed developers to the former Cook Elementary School on Friday. The redevelopment project aims to bolster the Capital City Wilbur Section.

KCG Development will repurpose the now vacant building into housing to accommodate low and middle-income tenants.

“The Cook School is more than a century old,” said Mayor Gusciora, “I’m just happy that we were able to work together with council to really enact some change in the community. We need to continue this momentum.”

He stressed the work of Councilman Joe Harrison in bringing the project to fruition on April 18th with the vote passing city council unanimously.

“We’re really excited to give people this opportunity to move into a neighborhood that I wholly believe is on the up-and-up,” said Councilman Joe Harrison, who represents the Wilbur Neighborhood Section.

Mayor Gusciora is confident that this project will help to support Trenton’s economy.

“We can’t just demolish everything,” he said. “We’re blessed with our city’s history, and the Cook School is an undeniable symbol of that.”

“This is a great opportunity for us to do something positive in Trenton,” said Councilman Harrison. “The council and Mayor working together to revitalize our city is good news for everyone.”
