Mayoral Candidate Jesal Amin Offers Plan for Route 18 Redevelopment
For Immediate Release
East Brunswick, NJ- East Brunswick Mayoral candidate Jesal Amin issued the following statement outlining his plan for redeveloping the blighted northern Route 18 corridor.
Specifically, Amin is calling for the construction of office parks, high-tech industry, expanded retail offerings and dining, which stands in sharp contrast with Mayor Cohen’s plans for high-density mixed-use developments.
“While Mayor Cohen wants to turn East Brunswick into the big city, I believe East Brunswick would be far better off maintaining its character as a residential community while continuing to attract businesses. As a new normal takes hold and we began to return to our daily lives, but with an increased focus on social distancing, offices are beginning to flee cities, and East Brunswick can be an attractive alternative.” Stated Amin. “East Brunswick residents will benefit as well. An influx of new businesses will bring an influx of high paying jobs and increased tax base that does not raise taxes on residents.”
“There can be a principled debate on the specifics of how to go about redeveloping East Brunswick, but one aspect we should all be able to agree on, is that the Mayor’s track record of four years of stalled redevelopment and attracting lawsuits instead of businesses is unacceptable and East Brunswick deserves better.” Continued Amin. “My plan moves East Brunswick forward by replacing blight with new businesses and increases our tax base without raising taxes on residents or greatly increasing the number residents, saving our schools from further overcrowding.”
