McKeon on SCOTUS Decision Limiting the EPA’s Authority to Regulate Greenhouse Gas Emissions

(TRENTON) –Earlier today, the Supreme Court reached a decision that will limit the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA) authority to regulate greenhouse gases from power plants.

In response to the ruling, Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex, Morris) issued the following statement denouncing the outcome:

“Today’s ruling is simply another step in the wrong direction for our country at the hands of the Supreme Court. Removing the EPA’s authority to implement greenhouse gas emissions caps will dramatically setback much of what we have done to create a cleaner, healthier environment.

“This ruling goes beyond impeding progress, it will dramatically impact the ability to fight flooding, droughts, heat waves, and many more disasters brought on by climate change.  As we continue to face climate challenges and are rapidly improving our response to clean our environment, this ruling will give large energy companies the leniency to conduct business with little interest in how they will affect our communities.”
