MCRC CHAIR ISSUES STATEMENT ON TOMORROW’S COUNTY COMMITTEE VOTE ON A PARTY LINE

The Morris County Republican Committee Chairwoman Laura Ali issued the following statement after a state Appellate Court Judge dismissed an appeal by dissident Republicans who argued for a delay of tomorrow’s county committee meeting.

“I’m very happy that the courts ruled on the side of freedom by allowing the MCRC County Committee to decide the destiny of the organization. This is an important step in evolution of the MCRC.”

“Those who oppose tomorrow’s meeting are opposing the right of the county committee members to vote on whether the organization shall have a party line for its candidates. They are obviously happy with the status quo because it suits their purposes.

“To maintain the status quo, the dissenters misrepresented the facts in court regarding the operation of the MCRC. The fact is that we did NOT violate our organization’s bylaws to call the meeting. Morris County Superior Court Judge Maritza Berdote Byrne on Monday validated the MCRC process, and ruled the MCRC gave proper notice of the meeting. And to further prove our point, the judge ordered the dissenters to pay the MCRC legal fees. Judge Byrne’s position was upheld on appeal, so not one, but two judges have ruled that the MCRC followed proper procedure to call tomorrow’s meeting. County Committee members should not entertain their lies and misleading rhetoric any longer.”

“The dissenters are entitled to their opinions on the party line – but they are not entitled to muzzle the county committee and stop them from voting.

“The future of the MCRC must be about more than a handful of insiders forcing their will on the 600-plus member organization. To be effective in beating back the growing activism of the Democratic Party in 2021 and beyond, the MCRC has to evolve; it has to become more inclusive and more active in the communities we represent.

“I hope that every MCRC County Committee member who can vote tomorrow, exercises their right to vote and I hope you vote for the change that many party leaders support.”
