Paterson, NJ: Councilman elect Alex Mendez is calling on the Paterson City Council to investigate Mayor Sayegh and his use of Paterson Police officers to intimidate, harass and suppress the Hispanic vote in the recent council elections.

Mendez maintains that he has evidence including a video that demonstrates the Mayor’s improper conduct in using police personnel in an attempt to discriminate and suppress the Hispanic vote.

Councilman Elect Mendez called on the Mayor to release all time logs for members of the police department that were involved in such activities. Mendez has asked the City Council to allow him to present evidence of this improper conduct.

“It is the duty of the City Council to protect our residents from the Mayor’s total and complete abuse of power” stated Councilman elect Mendez. He went further to state “this is the United States of America not a 3rd world country… we must protect our right to vote and fight against discriminatory practices encouraged by the Mayor”.

“Instead of protecting our residents the Mayor has wasted taxpayer resources in an attempt to harass and intimidate voters. It is time for the Mayor to be held accountable for these improper actions,” stated Mendez.
