Mercer Spreads Cheer with Annual Holiday Toy Drive

Holiday toy drive

In a year when the pandemic has caused distress for so many families, Mercer County employees and friends of Mercer County were quick to donate to the annual Toys for Tots holiday gift drive. Led by Mercer County Park Commission Rangers, with full support of County Executive Brian M. Hughes and Parks Executive Director Aaron T. Watson, toys for children of all age groups were collected at various Mercer County offices and facilities, and then gathered for pickup by the United States Marine Corps, who will present them to children in time for the holidays.

“Our County employees and local residents pitched in to help those who might be struggling a bit more this year, and our annual holiday toy drive is one way to spread cheer and put a smile on a child’s face,” Mr. Hughes said.

In addition to stuffed animals, books, backpacks, electronics, games, dolls and sports equipment, this year, children’s book author Patricia Saxton graciously donated more than 700 “The Book of Mermaids” magnetic dress-up sets, which will be warmly received.

To everyone who donated, know that your gift will make a child’s holiday more special, and thank you for joining Mercer County’s community outreach and charitable initiatives.
