Michael Roth for Congress Launches Climate Leaders for Michael with Endorsements from Senior White House and New Jersey Climate Leaders

Westfield, NJ – Today, Michael Roth for Congress announced the launch of Climate Leaders for Michael, a pair of respected climate leaders backing Michael Roth’s campaign for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. The coalition’s founding endorsers include:

  • Maggie Thomas, Special Assistant to the President for Climate, Biden White House
  • Thomas Dackow, Board Member of the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters

With astronomical energy costs at the top of the list of concerns facing New Jerseyans today, the support of these climate champions signals that Michael Roth has the experience and expertise needed to bring a vibrant clean energy economy to New Jersey — transforming the job market, lowering costs, and transitioning the state to a modern grid.

“New Jersey has been caught in the crosshairs of being forced to choose between lower energy costs and preserving our environment for far too long — and no one has won.” said Michael Roth. “It’s long past time to move New Jersey into the 21st century by prioritizing clean energy initiatives to not only drive down carbon emissions and diversify our energy portfolio, but to lower energy costs that have been a burden for New Jersey families.”

Endorsement Statements

Maggie Thomas served as the Special Assistant to the President for Climate in the Biden White House. As part of her role in the Biden Administration, she founded the American Climate Corps, which put 20,000 young people to work in climate and clean energy careers in communities across the country. Prior to that, she co-founded the climate advocacy group Evergreen Action and worked on the climate teams of presidential candidates Elizabeth Warren (as lead climate staffer) and Jay Inslee (deputy climate director). Earlier in her career, Thomas held several roles at NextGen America, a political organization that mobilizes young people to vote. Thomas is an author in the national bestseller, All We Can Save, a collection of writings by women leading on climate. Thomas graduated from Yale University with a Master’s in Environmental Management.

Thomas shared, “I am proud to support Michael Roth for Congress because he understands what’s at stake for American families and how to make the federal government actually deliver for them. I’ve learned from working at the highest levels of government that policy only matters if it produces real results. Michael is relentless about delivery and never accepts the status quo, especially in moments of crisis. Michael understands that clean energy is cheap energy. That’s why I’m confident that he’ll be the climate champion we need in Congress. With his experience in Washington and working with America’s small businesses, I am confident he will bring federal resources back to New Jersey and work in partnership with Governor Sherill to make the state a national leader in climate and economic opportunity.

Thomas Dackow boasts a storied career in IT, Fortune 500 companies, consulting, and innovative solutions for special business needs. Dackow has served on the Board of the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters for almost a decade, and also serves on the finance committee for J Street.

About Michael, Dackow said, “When I first met Michael, we had a broad ranging discussion of issues of particular concern to the citizens of New Jersey and of the central importance of individual States, given the manifest failure of the current Federal Government to rationally engage and constructively support issues of local, national and Global concern. With Michael’s election and the likely transition of Congress from Republican to Democratic leadership, we can expect to see the House resume its role as a functioning check on executive overreach. I feel confident that Michael is the best candidate to unseat Tom Kean Jr. and flip NJ-07 because he has the background and experience to allow him to be effective on day one.

Leaders Supporting A Leader

Just earlier this month, Michael Roth released the launch of Economic Leaders for Michael, a coalition of respected economic pioneers across all levels of government backing Michael Roth’s campaign to deliver jobs and affordability for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, including Don Graves, Former Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce; Earl Pomeroy, Former Congressman, North Dakota, former President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners; Bharat Ramamurti, Former Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, Former Top Economic Policy Advisor for Senator Elizabeth Warren; and Kevin Quinn, Former Board Chair of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Former Senior Relationship Director at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s CHIPS Program Office.

With respected climate leaders now joining these economic champions, Michael Roth is building the coalition needed that understands the urgency of meeting the moment to take on Tom Kean Jr. in the general election and deliver real results for New Jerseyans across the district and state.
