Englewood Democratic Mayoral Nominee Raises $25,000 for Menendez
NEW YORK, NY – Englewood Democratic Mayoral Nominee Michael Wildes hosted a highly successful fundraising event for U.S. Senator Bob Menendez’s campaign this morning at the Manhattan office of his law firm Wildes and Weinberg. Attended by numerous business and legal figures as well as many leading voices in the pro-Israel community, the event added $25,000 to the Senator’s re-election coffers as he heads into the crucial final weeks of the campaign.
“At a time when the very basic fabric of our democracy is seemingly under a new threat every day, it has never been more important to have a leader like Bob Menendez representing us in the Senate,” said Wildes, who won a resounding off the line victory in the June Democratic Primary election. “Senator Menendez has been a champion on so many issues that are vital to New Jersey, including being an indispensable leader on immigration reform which is obviously a cause that is close to my heart, and he’s also been an incredible advocate for the Jewish community. I’m proud to be able to help his campaign both financially and by rallying support within Englewood for Senator Menendez, Congressman Pascrell and the entire Democratic ticket.”
The Menendez event comes on the heels of another fundraiser Wildes organized for his own mayoral campaign in Livingston on Monday, where $10,000 was raised for the General Election campaign. Wildes has now raised over $150,000 for his campaign in total, in addition to a $200,000 personal loan he made to the campaign in its early stages that has nearly been paid back in full.
Wildes spoke at the event about Sen. Menendez’s support for President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and how his father Leon Wildes’ work on behalf of John Lennon in the 1970s created the legal basis for the policy. Wildes also spoke about his new book “Safe Haven in America,” which details the Lennon case and many other landmark immigration disputes, as well as his fondness for teaching at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
