Middlesex County celebrates Irish-American heritage with Irish flag raising
MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ – On Saturday, March 4, Middlesex County Commissioners and other local public figures honored Irish-American residents by raising the Irish flag over the Middlesex County Courthouse in New Brunswick in commemoration of St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.
County Commissioner Charles Kenny and New Jersey House Speaker Craig Coughlin, themselves Irish-Americans, marked the occasion with remarks noting the achievements of one of New Jersey’s largest immigrant groups. Other speakers included Director of the Board of County Commissioners Ronald G. Rios; Edward O’Connor, the South Amboy Hibernian of the Year; and Kenneth Michael Egan, the Woodbridge Grand Marshal also spoke to the many contributions of Irish-Americans throughout our history.
