Mikie Sherrill Will Stand Up to Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Washington Republicans

NEWARK — New Jersey needs a governor who can go on the offense, lowering costs and expanding opportunities, while protecting New Jerseyans’ rights and freedoms from Donald Trump’s Washington. Mikie first ran for elected office in response to Donald Trump’s threat to our values and the Affordable Care Act, and has effectively gone toe-to-toe with Washington Republicans to deliver for New Jerseyans.

• After Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016, Mikie stepped up to run for office in the midterms. She built a grassroots movement and flipped a Republican stronghold in the largest swing from red to blue in the entire country.

• Mikie led the effort to initiate President Trump’s first impeachment. House Democrats opened an impeachment inquiry after Mikie and a group of national security Democrats urged the Speaker of the House to act.
• Now, Mikie is fighting to stop Elon Musk and DOGE from gutting our federal government, stealing Americans’ data, and lining his own pockets. She introduced legislation that would require Elon and DOGE employees to submit to drug testing to maintain their “special government employee” status.

• She is the leading voice in Congress to ban the practice of “judge shopping” — which Donald Trump’s anti-abortion allies have used to ensure favorable outcomes and implement draconian abortion bans nationwide. As governor, she’ll enshrine abortion rights in the New Jersey state constitution.
• Mikie has fought to restrict Donald Trump from politicizing the military and the National Guard, protect guardsmen and women from improper domestic deployment, and extend the Posse Comitatus Act to protect the National Guard from political abuse.

• And she continues to go toe-to-toe with Pete Hegseth to protect American service members from his dangerous incompetence, attempts to erase history, and disregard for our national security.
• She has led the fight to repeal the State and Local Tax Deduction Cap, put into place by Donald Trump’s 2017 tax bill. Mikie has passed legislation through the House twice to repeal this unfair double tax on New Jerseyans.

Let’s not forget: Governors are the last line of defense while Donald Trump is president. A Republican governor will support an abortion ban, gut our health care system, and cozy up to Trump’s billionaire, tax-cheat donors.
