Monmouth University Polling Institute Earns A-Plus Rating for Third Straight Time from Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight
Poll Garners Top ‘Predictive’ Score, ‘A Projection of How Accurate
the Pollster Will Be in Future Elections’
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (November 6, 2019) – For the third straight time, the Monmouth University Polling Institute has received an A-plus rating from Nate Silver’s respected news site FiveThirtyEight.
The Monmouth University Poll was one of just six to receive a grade of A-plus out of 430 polling operations reviewed by FiveThirtyEight, which calculates ratings by analyzing the historical accuracy and methodology of each organization’s polls. Previously, the poll was rated A-plus in 2016 and 2018 (ratings were not updated in 2017).
The Monmouth University Poll also received the best “predictive” score among these pollsters, which FiveThirtyEight defines as a “projection of how accurate the pollster will be in future elections.”
“We pride ourselves on tapping the mood of the public not only on elections, but also a wide variety of issues,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute. “We again are honored to be seen as one of the nation’s leading polling organizations by FiveThirtyEight, and we remain committed to fostering greater public accountability by ensuring that the public’s voice is heard.”
Monmouth University President Patrick F. Leahy added: “The Monmouth University Polling Institute has built a tremendous reputation for being accurate, trustworthy and reliable. This distinction reiterates Monmouth’s standing as one of the top polling operations in the nation.”
The Monmouth University Polling Institute was established to be a leading center for the study of public opinion on important state and national issues. Murray was named the founding director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute in 2005.
