Ashley, a graduate of Passaic High School, completed two years as a High School Fellow in MTB and now serves as a College Student Leader, mentoring two high school students in Passaic. Ashley completed her first year at William Paterson University, where she studies Criminal Justice. She is interning at the Immigration and American Citizenship Organization (IACO) in Passaic.
MTB is also hosting a Fellow in the program this summer. Ismel Martinez Sanchez, a graduate of New Brunswick High School, attends Rutgers University, New Brunswick, where she studies Criminal Justice and Psychology. She selected MTB for her internship site because of the opportunity to give back to her community and bring awareness to opportunities for first-generation students.
More Than Bootstraps congratulates Ashley and Ismel for striving for and earning these opportunities for themselves. “Paid internships are critical for first-generation college students,” said Audrey Fisch, president of More Than Bootstraps. “The Governor’s Hispanic Fellows Program is an amazing opportunity for students to build experience and expertise, grow their professional skills and network, and still earn funds to support their families and the many expenses of college education.”
