Morris County Young Democrats Elect New Executive Board

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Morris County Young Democrats (MCYD) have elected T.C. McCourt of Dover to serve as the organization’s new President. He was elected unanimously last night alongside the other members of his slate, known as MCYD Future.

McCourt, who is currently making his second bid for Morris County Commissioner, has served as the MCYD’s Outreach Coordinator since 2020. The organizations first openly gay President, he also serves as the Vice Chair of the Morris County Democratic Committee’s LGBTQA+ Caucus.

“I am honored to succeed an outstanding Board and President in Ore Obiwumi,” McCourt said. “The last two years have not been the easiest for political organizations, but I am incredibly optimistic that we can build on Ore’s years of hard work and turn MCYD into a powerhouse for young Democrats across Morris County and the region.”

Joining McCourt on the new MCYD Executive Board will be Laura Bustamante (Vice President), Jonathan Bellinghausen (Treasurer), and Carrie O’Brien (Secretary). Their terms will run for two years.

Additional members of the Executive Board will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I offer my congratulations to T.C. McCourt and the new leadership team,” said Amalia Duarte, Chair of the Morris County Democratic Committee. “I am excited to partner with them in increasing involvement of Young Democrats across the county.”

McCourt said his primary focus will be on helping re-elect Tom Malinowski and Mikie Sherrill, as well as expanding Democratic representation in Morris County’s 39 municipalities.

In light of the recent decision at the federal level, the new Executive Board has pledged an increased focus on issue and policy activism.
