Morris County’s Annual “Revolutionary Times” Goes Virtual July 4th

COVID-19 is not about to stop a Morris County Fourth of July tradition — it’s just going to make it a virtual celebration for one year.

The Morris County Tourism Bureau, the Morristown National Historical Park, Washington Association of New Jersey, and partners intend to celebrate America’s birthday in Morris County with a unique version of the annual Revolutionary Times events.

It will feature some colorful history of the Declaration of Independence, including the annual reading by costumed rangers Eric Olsen and Tom Winslow, of Morristown National Historical Park.

Residents will be able to view the program on Morristown National Historical Park’s Facebook page beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 4th. To view the event, visit https://www.facebook.com/MorristownNPS/.

Each year, the Tourism Bureau and its partners hold Independence Day activities on and around the Morristown Green. While it’s not possible to gather safely in person this year due to COVID restrictions, the historic tradition will continue.

“We look forward to celebrating the Fourth of July with all residents of Morris County,” said Freeholder Director Deborah Smith. “While this year’s Revolutionary Times celebration  may be virtual, the spirit of the Morris County Tourism Bureau and the  Morristown National Historical Park are very real. Thank you for you great efforts to celebrate our nation and its history.”

Officials of Morris  Tourism, Morristown National Historical Park, and the Washington Association say they are proud to bring the public this free virtual July 4th celebration. More importantly,  they look forward to presenting the program in person next year.
