Morristown Airport Hosts Third Annual “High School Aviation Day” for Over 250 Area High School Students

Students learned about potential careers in aviation through demonstrations, displays of aircraft and airfield equipment, and engaging with industry experts.

Morristown, New Jersey – DM AIRPORTS, LTD., Operators of Morristown Airport (KMMU), hosted its third annual “High School Aviation Day” on April 30th, 2025 with over 250 students from ten area high schools in attendance. The event, held at a hangar on the airfield , provided a hands-on learning experience where students explored various aviation career paths through demonstrations, aircraft displays, and interactions with industry experts.

APPROVED “We were thrilled to welcome so many promising young people to Morristown Airport’s third annual High School Aviation Day and teach them about the aviation industry,” said Darren Large, Director of Operations & Facilities at MMU, who worked with schools in the area to organize the event. “Morristown Airport plans this event every year to help students understand the exciting career options that are available to them in the future. We hope this event helps young people pursue their dreams and learn more about aviation in the process.”

Schools in attendance included Roxbury High School, Weehawken High School, Ridgefield Memorial High School, Franklin High School, Morris Hills High School, Morris Knolls High School, Manville High School, Hoboken High School, Boonton High School, and Raritan High School.

Representatives from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) showcased how drug-detection K-9 units are used to safeguard the public and how aircraft sweeps of an aircraft are conducted. Warren County Community College (WCCC), which offers a drone program, presented a drone demonstration, highlighting some of the latest drone technology.

Students also explored static displays of aircraft and airfield equipment, toured an aircraft hangar, and viewed the New Jersey State Police Aviation Bureau helicopter. Throughout the day, students engaged with professionals from across the aviation industry, gaining valuable exposure to a wide range of career pathways.

Various elected officials from local communities were also in attendance.

It’s a tremendous asset—supporting both business and leisure travel—and provides a vital convenience not just for Morristown residents, but for the entire region.”

"It’s a significant driver of commerce for the Morris County region and offers incredible opportunities for young people to begin and continue their flight training. Hanover considers the airport one of our premier public neighbors, and we’re proud to support and celebrate its presence in our community.”

The goal of the event is to reach students who are interested in pursuing aviation at an early age. Students who attended the event were from all high school grade levels and either participate in their high school’s aviation club or are interested in pursuing aviation as a career.
