Going Back with Jack: Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Jack Ciattarelli Sides with Trump and Christie on “Failed and Flawed” Affordable Care Act

TRENTON — On the 11th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and in the face of the worst economic and public health crises in our nation’s history, Republican gubernatorial candidate and former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli wants to take New Jersey back to the days when hundreds of thousands were left uninsured and millions with pre-existing conditions faced discrimination in the marketplace.

During his run for Governor in 2017, Jack Ciattarelli supported the Trump-led GOP’s efforts to deny vulnerable Americans access to health care, describing the ACA as “failed and flawed.”

In New Jersey, the ACA lowered the uninsured rate among the Hispanic community by 25% and cut that rate in half for Black residents. Despite this improvement for underserved communities, according to Ciattarelli, “There Is no doubt that Obamacare needs to be repealed and replaced.”

Ciattarelli has been a longstanding opponent of expanding access to health care for New Jerseyans. As an Assemblyman, Jack worked hand in hand with former Governor Christie to undermine access to health care for vulnerable New Jerseyans, voting four times against a State-Based Health Exchange.

“Throughout his career, time and time again Assemblyman Ciattarelli has demonstrated that he’s willing to sell New Jersey families out for the sake of partisan politics,” said Murphy for Governor Spokesman Jerrel Harvey. “Just like Trump and Christie, Assemblyman Ciattarelli has a lengthy record of opposing access to health care for women and the most vulnerable. New Jerseyans will judge Jack by his actions, and it’s clear he will rip away affordable health care plans from them and their families.”
