Murphy Endorsed by Somerset County Democrats

Bound Brook — Phil Murphy this evening won the official endorsement of the Somerset County Democratic Committee, exhibiting strong support from a surging Democratic party in a county where Donald Trump lost by 12 points this past November.

“Somerset County’s Democrats want a partner who will help us continue to grow and continue to turn our county ‘blue,’ and we’ve found him in Phil Murphy,” said county Chairwoman Marguerite “Peg” Schaffer. “Whether it is growing our party or growing New Jersey’s economy, Phil has the right ideas and abilities to get the job done. After watching the wreck that is the Christie administration, we need a governor whose only concern is getting our state back on track. We know Phil will be that governor.”

The overwhelming vote continues Murphy’s sweep of endorsements from the grassroots county committee members, who are locally elected party activists and volunteers.

Somerset County is home to more than 68,300 registered Democrats, an increase of nearly 15,000 from this time four years ago.

“I am honored by the trust the Somerset County Democrats have put in me to be their partner,” said Murphy. “Whether it is getting Democrats elected at the state and local levels, getting New Jersey’s economy back on course, or standing up to President Trump when his agenda unfairly targets us, we need to be strong and work together. The urgency in making New Jersey the place where we make our stand to renew our party and our pride is keenly felt in places like Somerset County. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and be present in the fight.”
