MURPHY FOR GOVERNOR MAXES OUT PRIMARY FUNDRAISING IN SINGLE QUARTER
Campaign Announces Fourth Quarter 2020 Fundraising Total of More Than $3.5 Million
TRENTON – Today, the Murphy for Governor campaign announced that it has maxed out its fundraising effort for the 2021 Democratic gubernatorial primary, completing fundraising for the primary campaign in a single quarter. The campaign announced a fundraising total of more than $3.5 million in contributions, surpassing its fundraising target.
“From the beginning, we aimed to build a dedicated team of supporters committed to Phil’s vision of rebuilding New Jersey’s middle class and doing what’s right for the next generation, not just the next election. Although we expected a strong response, we never anticipated the incredible energy and commitment we’ve since seen from every corner of New Jersey for the reelection effort,” said Murphy for Governor Campaign and Finance Chair Tammy Murphy. “We pledge to run an efficient, inclusive and innovative campaign, and are fortunate to have been able to raise every cent of our primary funds before entering 2021. We will take nothing for granted as we continue our fight for a New Jersey that is stronger and fairer for everyone.”
“The First Lady and our campaign team have accomplished an extraordinary task in just three short months,” said Murphy for Governor Campaign Manager Mollie Binotto. “During these challenging times, it’s inspiring to see so many New Jerseyans mobilize behind the Governor and his leadership during this pandemic. We’re honored to have such a strong team of supporters and pledge to be good stewards of our funds as our campaign continues to build momentum. Working together, we’ll re-elect Governor Murphy and build on the much-needed change he’s brought to Trenton.”
The funds raised this quarter are eligible to be matched two-to-one under ELEC’s New Jersey Gubernatorial Financing Program, which is more than enough to qualify the campaign for the maximum of $4.6 million in matching funds for the primary. The campaign, in turn, must abide by a spending cap of $7.3 million total for the primary. With today’s announcement, the campaign has already raised what it needs to cover the maximum allowable $7.3 million primary spend, in addition to exempt expenses not subject to the spending cap.
The Murphy for Governor reelection campaign launched on October 1, 2020 and announced its intention to participate in New Jersey’s campaign public financing program for both the primary and general elections.
