N.J. Working Families Lauds Reform Appointments to Economic Development Authority

New Jersey Working Families State Director Sue Altman issued the following statement following Governor Murphy’s appointments today to the board of the Economic Development Authority:

Governor Murphy is right to appoint a new team of good government, business leaders and community advocates to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.

It is finally time for New Jersey to turn the page on years of a failed tax incentive program that rewarded politically connected party bosses at the expense of New Jersey residents.

With these appointments, New Jersey taxpayers, job-seekers and good government advocates can have confidence that the EDA is moving one step closer to a period of integrity in our economic development programs.

These appointments bring real-work expertise in areas including business development, economics and urban communities to a board previously dominated by political insiders who failed to properly oversee billions of dollars in government subsidies.

They mark the next important step in Governor Murphy’s reshaping of our state’s economic policy to benefit working families over the politically connected. It’s now time for our lawmakers to heed the call for reform and enact changes to our incentives programs to safeguard taxpayer dollars while providing support for the communities with the greatest needs.
