The New Jersey State Chapter of the National Organization for Women, a state-wide women’s rights activist organization consisting of thousands of members, activists, and allies has announced the biennial election of its officers.
On October 3, 2020, New Jersey NOW held its 2020 State Conference virtually. Members of the organization voted to elect officers for the 2020-2022 term. The newly elected officers consist of the following:
President- Anjali Mehrotra
Administrative Vice President – Saily Avelenda
Action Vice President – Danielle (Danni) Newbury
Communications Vice President – Isha Mehrotra
Legislative Vice President – Linda Weber
Membership Vice President – Joseph Shelley
Secretary – Ayisha Mapp
Treasurer – Katherine (Katie) Brennan
“It is an honor to be re-elected President of New Jersey NOW,” said Anjali Mehrotra. “I look forward to working with the new board to continue to strengthen NOW’s presence in the state. The challenges that we have faced as a country since 2016 and especially this past year, including the recent passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, remind us just how fragile progress is. We will use our platform to ensure that state actions such as the Reproductive Freedom Act are implemented to protect our rights and advance our causes.”
The event’s programming also featured appearances by Senator Cory Booker, New Jersey Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, Assembly Member Shavonda Sumter, Dr. Khyati Y. Joshi, and Congressional Candidates Amy Kennedy (NJ-02) and Stephanie Schmid (NJ-04). Members of the House of Representatives – Andy Kim (NJ-03), Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), and Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) sent video messages and former New Jersey NOW president who is the current National NOW Vice President – Bear Atwood addressed the audience at the closed members only meeting earlier.
Recordings of both meetings along with those of the issue-centered webinars presented over the last three weeks can be viewed on New Jersey NOW’s YouTube channel at http://bit.ly/NJ-NOW-YouTube.
