New Jersey LCV Announces Major Endorsements for Governor, Assembly, and Local elections

Leading Political Voice for the Environment Endorses Strong Pro-Environment Candidates

TRENTON, NJ - New Jersey LCV, the leading political voice for the environment in New Jersey, announced its 2025 endorsements for the New Jersey Assembly and local races in the 2025 general election, as well as their continued enthusiastic support and endorsement of Mikie Sherrill for Governor. New Jersey LCV is a nonpartisan organization whose mission is to elect environmental champions, and is the only New Jersey environmental group with a Political Action Committee (PAC) and Super PAC.

New Jersey LCV announced these endorsements after receiving questionnaires from over 100 candidates. In a critical year for elections, the organization is making its largest ever investment in elections, spending $100,000 in legislative and down ballot elections.

“With Washington rolling back environmental protections, it’s more important than ever that we elect state and local champions who will fight for our right to clean air, safe drinking water, and healthy communities,” said Allison McLeod, Deputy Director, New Jersey LCV. “That’s why we’ve endorsed candidates up and down the ballot—from Governor and Assembly to county and local races—because every level of government plays a role. From tackling flooding and air pollution to protecting open space from warehouse sprawl, state and local leaders are on the front lines of this fight, and they need our support now more than ever. The stakes have never been higher.”

New Jersey LCV is also proud to continue their enthusiastic support and endorsement for Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, an environmental champion, for Governor during the general election cycle. Congresswoman Sherrill’s leadership in Washington and on the ground in New Jersey has made a critical difference in securing multiple major legislative victories in recent years that boosted cost-saving clean energy, protected New Jersey communities from the impacts of climate change, safeguarded clean drinking water, and created union jobs.

“Based on Mikie Sherrill’s outstanding record of environmental leadership in Congress, New Jersey LCV concluded she is far and away the best candidate to deliver bold environmental policy leadership that will make a crucial difference in fighting the climate crisis, lowering electricity costs, and protecting our environment and every New Jersey family’s right to breathe clean air and drink pure water,” said Randy Jones, New Jersey LCV C4 Board Chair.

New Jersey LCV has also endorsed a diverse group of 46 candidates for Assembly, including 22 women and 14 BIPOC candidates, representative of the constituencies in which they serve.

We’re proud to have stood shoulder to shoulder with them in the Assembly and look forward to continuing to do so, pushing for bold action every step of the way.”

Local and county governments are on the front lines of tackling issues such air quality, flooding, and preserving open space from warehouse sprawl. Local elected officials are empowered to make critical land use, development, water quality, and preservation, and funding decisions that play an outsize role in environmental protection, which is why it is critical to have environmental champions at every level of government - particularly in a time when we see federal protections being rolled back.

Since its first local endorsement process in 2020 with 26 endorsements, New Jersey LCV has seen the number of candidates moving through the process grow exponentially, demonstrating the importance of environmental protection to residents across the state. From the endorsed local candidates this year, 32% are people of color, 51% women, and 3% identify as LGBTQ+.

“When it comes to protecting our environment, local races matter just as much as statewide and federal elections. The decisions made by local officials shape how our communities respond to flooding, invest in clean energy, preserve open space, and safeguard our air and water. By electing environmental champions at every level of government, we ensure New Jersey communities can thrive with cleaner air, healthier lands, and stronger protections against climate change,” said Jaclyn Rhoads, New Jersey LCV, Political Chair.
