NEW JERSEY LCV APPLAUDS NEW JERSEY DEP ACTION ON ELIMINATING LEAD SERVICE LINES

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV, regarding the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) participation with a small group of four states in a new federal initiative to accelerate the pace of lead service line identification and replacement in overburdened communities. DEP Commissioner, Shawn LaTourette, participated in a kick off of the program at the White House today.

“We applaud Commissioner LaTourette and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for their vigilance in aggressively eliminating every lead service line in New Jersey. Agreeing to be a part of a small group of four states in this important new federal initiative to accelerate the pace of lead service line identification and replacement in overburdened communities is another example of how the DEP is taking bold action to make New Jersey the most environmentally friendly state in the nation,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “Lead service lines pose a major risk to public health, impacting the safety of drinking water for families and especially children, affecting brain development and behavioral changes. Lead poisoning is a justice, environmental, and health issue. We’re proud to see New Jersey continuing to take action to address the lead crisis.”
