NEW JERSEY LCV CONGRATULATES DEBRA HAALAND ON HER CONFIRMATION AS SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR
HOPEFUL FOR NEW ADMINISTRATION’S WORK ON PRESERVING PUBLIC LANDS AND CLIMATE ACTION
TRENTON – The following statement is from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, on the historical vote today confirming the appointment of Representative Debra Haaland (D-N.M.) as the first Indigenous American Secretary of the Interior and Cabinet member.
“This is historic – and way overdue. With this appointment, President Biden is keeping his commitment to select the most diverse cabinet of any President and to champion environmental conservation. Secretary Haaland has promised to be a fierce advocate for public lands, and we in the conservation movement couldn’t be happier,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “Having a partner in Washington committed to helping preserve the natural beauty of our nation and state instead of turning public lands into a real estate market for the fossil fuel industry will go a long way toward protecting the environment and fighting climate change.”
New Jersey League of Conservation Voters is a non-partisan organization whose mission is to elect environmental champions, hold public officials accountable, and support laws which protect our environment and improve the quality of people’s lives.
