Recognizes Institution’s Leadership in Building a Sustainable and Resilient Future
TRENTON – New Jersey LCV will host its 12th Annual Gala on Monday, June 15th at 5:30 p.m. at the Palace in Somerset, N.J. The Gala celebrates pro-environment victories and legislative wins, honoring those who have helped make those achievements a reality.
New Jersey LCV is proud to announce that Rutgers University will receive this year’s Sustainability Award. This recognition is presented to an institution or business that is at the forefront of building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for New Jersey.
Rutgers University has distinguished itself through its exceptional commitment to climate leadership, environmental research, clean energy innovation, and environmental stewardship. The university has set ambitious carbon neutrality goals, expanded large-scale solar installations, advanced energy-efficiency improvements, and implemented forward-thinking stormwater and flood-resilience strategies. With sustainable transportation options and climate-focused operational planning across its campuses, Rutgers continues to model what institutional sustainability can look like at scale.
“We are thrilled to present our Sustainability Award to Rutgers University,” said Allison McLeod, Interim Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “Rutgers is setting a national example by pairing bold climate goals with meaningful on-the-ground action—from clean energy investments to groundbreaking research and community partnerships. Their leadership shows what’s possible when an institution commits to transforming its vision for a sustainable future into reality.”
Sustainability research and efforts occur across the State University of New Jersey in several labs, centers, and offices including the Office of Climate Action, the Rutgers Institute for Corporate Social Innovation, the Rutgers EcoComplex/Clean Energy Innovation Center, and the Rutgers Climate and Energy Institute.
“Rutgers’ commitment to a resilient, sustainable New Jersey and the world is evident in the impact of our environmental research across the university—on the sea, agricultural fields, and the air we breathe—and in the progress we are making on our action plan for operations on all our campuses,” said Rutgers President William F. Tate IV. “We are honored to receive New Jersey LCV’s top award.”
Rutgers plays a vital statewide role by conducting research, providing policy guidance, and driving community engagement to help New Jersey confront climate change and environmental inequities. Programs carried out through Rutgers Business School, the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, and the New Jersey Climate Change Resource Center, to name a few, demonstrate how education, science, and public service can work together to create lasting environmental progress. Through these initiatives, Rutgers equips students, decision-makers, and residents to respond to evolving climate challenges and build a greener, more resilient future.
“I’m consistently inspired by the dedication of our honorees, and Rutgers truly rose to the top this year,” said Jason Krane, Chief Development Officer, New Jersey LCV. “The university’s comprehensive approach to climate action—in research efforts, on campus, in classrooms, and across communities—embodies the spirit of this award. At the Gala, we will also recognize elected leaders, partners, and advocates who share our mission of ensuring clean air, safe drinking water, and open space for everyone, no matter their zip code.”
New Jersey LCV continues to raise a record-breaking amount at its annual gala and this year’s celebration promises to build on that momentum. The event will feature an exciting live and silent auction, offering unique environmental experiences, travel opportunities, and a chance to have lunch with Allison McLeod, New Jersey LCV’s interim Executive Director, among other exciting opportunities.
