NEW JERSEY LCV SUPPORTS SAME DAY VOTER REGISTRATION BILL

TRENTON – The following statement is from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, supporting legislation (A1966/S247) that would allow same day voter registration at the polls during the in-person early voting period and on election day.

“Same day voter registration will help break down some of the unnecessary inequities that cause Black and Brown people to register at lower rates and be purged from voter rolls at higher rates than white voters,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “Only 40% of eligible voters cast their ballots in New Jersey’s 2021 election, making it among the lowest turnouts for a Garden State gubernatorial race in the past century. Same day voter registration will help remove a barrier to voting and improve participation in elections to ensure our democracy truly represents everyone.”

New Jersey League of Conservation Voters is a non-partisan organization whose mission is to elect environmental champions, hold public officials accountable, and support laws which protect our environment and improve the quality of people’s lives.
