New Jersey State AFL-CIO Congratulates Hudson CLC Unprecedented Primary Election Endorsement of Rob Menendez Jr.
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO congratulates the Hudson County Central Labor Council for taking the unprecedented step of making an endorsement in a primary election for Rob Menendez in New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District. The upcoming mid-term elections are critical to the issues New Jersey working families face everyday. The labor movement understands that it needs to mobilize our union sisters and brothers in primaries to elect as many pro-labor candidates as possible. If these opportunities are missed, other organizations will fill the void by supporting candidates who do not represent our working families issues. At a time when the right to organize and fight for higher wages and better benefits is being threatened, independent contractors are chipping away at the opportunity for working families to join the middle class, and the importance of workplace health and safety has never been greater, the labor movement needs to rise up and ensure candidates with union values are on the ballot and elected to office.Hudson County Central Labor Council President Barry Kushnir said, “Rob understands the needs of the working men and women that power our county every single day, and that is why we are proud to stand with him as he runs to represent us in Congress. We look forward to getting to work to ensure that come January 2022, Rob is in Washington to fight for union labor and our rights to advocate for well-paying jobs and safe work conditions.”Rob Menendez said, “Unions are the path to success and financial stability for so many working families in Hudson County, and our union brothers and sisters will always have a friend and ally in me to ensure that opportunities are present for current and future generations to achieve the American Dream.”The New Jersey State AFL-CIO looks forward to considering Rob Menendez’s candidacy for endorsement in the general election during its 2022 Legislative/COPE Endorsement Conference in June.
