New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks Congressman Norcross for House passage of Apprenticeship Act

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks and congratulates our IBEW brother, Rep. Donald Norcross, D-1st District, for his tireless work to gain House passage of the National Apprenticeship Act of 2020. The bill, which he cosponsored, includes the Apprenticeship Hubs Across America Act, and will invest more than $3.5 billion to create nearly 1 million new apprenticeships over the next five years.

“A skilled workforce is essential to New Jersey and America, especially in the middle of an economic crisis like this,” Charles Wowkanech, President of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, said. “Registered Apprenticeships are some of the absolutely best ways to train the workers of the future and ensure American competitiveness in the post-pandemic world.

“A Registered Apprenticeship shaped my life,” Representative Norcross said, “laying the foundation for me to go from the construction site to Congress. Expanding access to Registered Apprenticeships – our country’s most successful workforce training program – will allow workers to earn while they learn and accelerate our economic recovery.”

“With only a few weeks left in the current Congress,” President Wowkanech said, “we respectfully urge the Senate to pass this important legislation and we ask President Trump to sign it into law.”

The National Apprenticeship Act of 2020 is endorsed by American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP), Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), Jobs for the Future (JFF), National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), National Skills Coalition (NSC), National Taskforce on Tradeswomen’s Issues (TWTF), North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), and Third Way.
