New Jersey Workers Speak Out In Support of Democratic Legislature’s Budget Plan

‘Putting men and women to work, investing in economic opportunities’

Clark, N.J. June 26, 2018 – The budget that gained the support of both the State Senate and General Assembly is a workers’ plan that will put people to work in good jobs and make the types of investments that will expand economic opportunities for New Jersey, said William Mullen, the President of the New Jersey State Building and Construction Trades Council.

“This is a great budget for workers and their families because it will create jobs and have a lasting impact on the opportunities that are provided to students to gain the education and job skills to compete in the job market,” said Mullen. “It will put $32 million into the construction and modernization of colleges and universities across the state, creating skilled construction jobs for the men and women in the building trades. Their paychecks will also act as a boost to the economy with a spin-off effect that fuels economic activity.”

Mullen is referring to the $30 million in the budget that targets capital construction and improvements to colleges and universities in the state that is included in the Legislature’s budget.

“The budget also puts $242 million into NJ Transit to keep the trains operating and the commuters moving and continues to make the investments in the state’s transportation infrastructure from the Trust Fund,” said Mullen. “This is a ‘workers’ budget’ that create jobs and serves the needs of working families. The Democratic Legislature is standing behind working people, we are standing up for them.”
