New Jersey Working Families Endorses Joe Cryan for State Senate, Elton Custis for Mayor of Camden, And A Three-Candidate Slate For Camden Council

Camden, NJ: New Jersey Working Families Alliance has announced its endorsement of Joe Cryan for State Senate and Elton Custis for Mayor of Camden. For Camden City Council At-Large seats, NJWF has endorsed Carmen Lozada, Carla Benson, and Hector Rojas.

Joe Cryan has served in the New Jersey Senate since 2018, representing the 20th Legislative District. Elton Custis is currently serving on the Camden School Advisory Board since 2019, and he’s running to succeed Mayor Frank Moran, who is stepping down.

“Elton Custis won a citywide race as a Camden board of education candidate, and is now running for Mayor with his team. He clearly has a strong base within the community, which makes him a strong and viable candidate in Camden- which is what the city needs to protect its interests from a predatory County who has attempted to remove City control over code enforcement, certain parks, and the finance department. Camden County- a mostly white controlled county- wants to take everything that’s not nailed down in Camden City- a mostly Black and brown city. This is an issue of justice and equity. We are strongly behind Elton, under whose leadership this kind of pillaging will be put to a stop.”

“Senator Joe Cryan has long been a friend to working families, immigrants, and the labor movement across the state. We are proud to help strengthen the support of progressive leadership in the Senate, and enthusiastically support one of the Legislature’s most effective Senators. We proudly endorse Senator Cryan and his slate for re-election ,” said Sue Altman, NJWF.
