8/29/24 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Trenton, NJ – August 29, 2024 – Trenton North Ward City Councilwoman Jennifer Williams is excited to announce a special and unique event, entitled “An Evening with Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Trenton Councilwoman Jennifer Williams” featuring a conversation between her and Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka. The nonpartisan event will take place at Cooper’s Riverview in Trenton on September 4th from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM and will be an insightful and engaging discussion that will explore the shared experiences and challenges faced by New Jersey’s largest city and the capital city.

This exclusive event will provide a platform for the Councilwoman and Mayor Baraka to delve into commonalities between Trenton and Newark, addressing key urban policy issues and exploring innovative solutions to improve our communities. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear firsthand from two influential leaders in New Jersey about the dynamic nature of urban development and policy in New Jersey.

Mayor Ras J. Baraka, elected in 2014 as Mayor of Newark, and Trenton’s North Ward Councilwoman Jennifer Williams, elected in 2023, are aiming to foster a bridge of understanding and problem-solving between elected officials who represent areas that have similarities, while also highlighting the issues affecting policy outcomes. Mayor Baraka and Councilwoman Williams previously served together on a policy panel at the Eagleton Institute at Rutgers University.

Regarding the event, Mayor Ras J. Baraka said, “I am excited to join Councilwoman Jennifer Williams for this special event, where we will have an open and meaningful dialogue about the shared challenges and opportunities that cities like Newark and Trenton have in today’s New Jersey,” said Mayor Ras J. Baraka. “This conversation is an important opportunity to exchange ideas and insights on urban development, affordable housing, community engagement, crime reduction and policy innovation. I look forward to connecting with the people of Trenton and working together to build stronger, more resilient communities across our state.”

Councilwoman Williams added, “As we come from two different levels in government, but face very similar issues in Newark and Trenton I think this will be a very worthwhile and actually fun discussion between Mayor Baraka and myself. I greatly admire his leadership and strong beliefs in how to make government work for people and am honored to have him come to Trenton to discuss public policy with me.”
