NEWARK’S TOP PUBLIC SAFETY AND PUBLIC HOUSING LEADERS
ENDORSE ANTHONY CAMPOS FOR EAST WARD COUNCIL
NEWARK – Those who know public safety best and represent the men and women on the front lines endorse Anthony Campos for East Ward Councilman. It is one thing to have been endorsed by elected officials, it is completely different to be endorsed by those men and women who put their lives on the line every day for the safety and well being of the people of Newark and the greater Essex County.
Campos has won the support of the Essex County Chiefs of Police Association, the Newark Police Superior Officers’ Association, the Newark Firefighters Union and former Newark Director of Public Safety Anthony F. Ambrose.
“Improving public safety requires a deep understanding of not only the community, but also of
the intricacies of the complex public agencies focused on law enforcement,” Ambrose said. “Having worked with Anthony over the years, I can personally attest to his character and genuine desire to improve the lives of those around him. Anthony is fiercely protective of the East Ward, and he is the best candidate in this race with the managerial experience and professional background to bring real progress towards improving public safety in the East Ward.”
“As a former Chief of Police for the City of Newark, Anthony also has the benefit of having been an executive to a large and complex agency – one that had to coordinate with other departments, agencies, and regional partners,” said Gary D. Vickers, 1st Vice President of the Newark Police Superior Officers’ Association. “This experience of working well with others will undoubtedly serve the residents of the East Ward well. We are honored to support him.”
Campos also has the backing of Chief John Comparetto, the retired Chief of the Sheriff’s Department and former Lieutenant and Executive Officer of the NYPD NY DEA Task Force.
“Anthony knows how to work with everyone to get results,” Comparetto said. “He works across departments and agencies for the betterment of everyone.”
“There is no one with greater depth of understanding of all aspects of policing and public safety,” said Chief Paul M. Cell, President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and President of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. “He’ll provide the City Council with unmatched expertise to increase public safety.”
The Newark Firefighters Union studied the records, plans and accomplishments of the candidates running in the Ironbound and determined Campos is the candidate that fits their motto “there when you need us.”
“The Union operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” said President Charles West. “We are deeply involved in our community, caring for and protecting our citizens to the best of our ability. To that end, this Union believes that our elected officials, within this great City, should be held to those same high standards.”
In addition, Campos has been endorsed by the East Ward Coalition of Public Housing Leaders representing the residents of Pennington Court, Terrell Homes, Hyatt Court, Aspen River Apartments, Astor Street, 15 Pennington Street, 1060 Broad Street and others.
“I’m honored to have the support of those who care so deeply about our community,” Campos said. “As the East Ward’s next Councilman, I’ll work hard every day to improve the safety and quality of life for all of our residents.”
