NJ-02 Poll: Tim Alexander ties incumbent Rep. Jeff Van Drew, outperforms generic Democrat by 6 points

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new survey shows Democrat Tim Alexander, running for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, ties with incumbent Republican Congressman Tim Van Drew on an informed ballot and significantly outperforms a generic Democratic candidate.

The poll, conducted by Change Research, shows Alexander and Van Drew tied 47-47 after hearing both positive and negative facts about each candidate, while a generic Democrat trails Van Drew 42-48. The findings also highlight Van Drew’s vulnerability, as his support fails to break 50 percent in both the generic and named ballots, and only 42 percent of voters view him favorably.

“This poll shows there’s a clear path to flipping this seat and giving New Jersey’s 2nd District real leadership in Congress,” said a spokesperson for The Majority Rules PAC. “Voters agree that a candidate like Tim Alexander, who’s focused on bringing people together and solving real problems, is uniquely qualified to represent this district in Congress.”

Change Research’s memo on the poll and additional findings are available here. The poll was sponsored by The Majority Rules PAC.
