NJ 11th Congressional Race Heats Up With Influential Endorsement

“I am honored to announce that my campaign has received the coveted endorsement from Higher Heights for America.” Tamara Harris, Democratic Challenger in the 11th Congressional District.

The New York, NY-based, 501(c)(4) organization has national reach and the stated mission of harnessing the economic and political power of African-American women around the country and channeling that power to both mobilize this powerful voting bloc and cultivate a pipeline of political leaders.

“I am humbled to be named among an exclusive group of accomplished women selected to receive Higher Heights’ endorsement.  Their support and work are essential, particularly in this political climate where diminished racial and gender representation among the legislative ranks have enabled crippling policy decisions that will adversely affect women and working families for decades to come,” said Harris.

Higher Heights has an impressive record fielding and backing successful women of color throughout the country since its inception in 2015. Their endorsed candidates have won many high-profile elections including those of the newly-elected mayor of Atlanta, Keisha Lance Bottoms, as well as our own Lt. Governor – Elect of New Jersey, Sheila Oliver, and the mayors of both Charlotte, NC and New Orleans, LA. Furthermore, all eyes are on statewide candidates in Alabama, where Congresswoman Terri Sewell is running for re-election, and in Georgia, where the Gubernatorial campaign of Democrat Stacey Abrams is in the national spotlight.

Harris continues: “Our country is facing challenging issues that will require all hands on deck. Diverse voices and perspectives in Washington, and every state and municipality around the country, will be critical toward achieving more creative and collaborative policy solutions.”

The organizers of Higher Heights, both of whom are seasoned political operatives, have long known that African-American women are the most loyal and consistent Democratic voting bloc in the country, and yet our voices and issues are not sufficiently represented in all aspects of government. Higher Heights’ goal is to provide the requisite training and resources to manage formidable political campaigns, and prepare their candidates to assume seats at the tables of power in every political realm and elective office. The eventual outcome is to affect political policy and guarantee truly representative government.
