NJ Citizen Action PAC Endorses Progressive Hackensack City Council Slate

April 5, 2021 – Hackensack, NJ – New Jersey Citizen Action (NJCA) announces that the NJCA PAC has endorsed the For Hackensack’s Future 2021 slate of candidates for Hackensack City Council – Leila Amirhamzeh, Clarence “Randy” Glover, Andee Post, Caseen Gaines, and Mary Lopez. For Hackensack’s Future embraces values and policies that reflect NJCA’s priorities, including equitable COVID-19 recovery, affordable housing, local tax fairness, homeowner relief, and support for local small businesses.

Each of these five candidates has a personal history of public service and giving back to their communities. They felt called to run in the wake of the City’s inadequate municipal response to the COVID-19 crisis, which was exacerbated by the overall lack of pre-existing city services. The team can bring much-needed change to City Hall and move Hackensack toward a future that serves all residents, not just wealthy developers. Leila Amirhamzeh, in addition to being a 20-year Hackensack resident and former Hackensack Board of Education trustee, is the Director of Development for NJCA and has worked tirelessly to help advance social, racial, and economic justice in New Jersey.

“Important change often starts on the municipal level, and the For Hackensack’s Future slate can bring meaningful advances to one of the fastest growing cities in New Jersey,” said Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, NJCA Executive Director. “I have worked side-by-side with Leila Amirhamzeh for over 20 years, and it is clear that all five candidates are deeply committed to fighting for equitable policies that lift up all residents and do not prioritize corporate developers over local businesses, as opposed to the last eight years in Hackensack.”
