NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development Announces $1M Grant for Clean Energy Jobs Training
TRENTON – The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) has announced $1 million in available funding through the Clean Energy Jobs Training Program – PSE&G Partnership Grant.
The NJDOL has partnered with Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) to develop the Clean Energy Jobs Training Program, which will help build a workforce with the skills needed to implement energy efficiency projects across PSE&G’s service areas and to target the state’s underserved communities.
PSE&G, in partnership with the NJDOL and community-based organizations, expects to recruit, train, and employ more than 2,000 residents from its service areas over the next three years. The Clean Energy Jobs Training Program will provide workforce readiness and financial literacy education, wrap-around supportive services, job coaching, and job placement services to successfully matriculate from training to jobs with PSE&G’s contracted suppliers and employers. This grant targets the city service areas of Newark, Paterson, Elizabeth, New Brunswick, Trenton, and Camden.
“The future of our workforce includes career opportunities in renewable energy, and this grant will provide a pathway for workers to gain high skills training that will lead to success in this emerging and innovative industry,” said Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo.
“We are thrilled to have PSE&G as a partner to offer this crucial investment into clean energy jobs, which will further Governor Murphy’s commitment to protecting our environment and reducing the effects of climate change.”
The PSE&G Partnership Grant was developed in response to the New Jersey Clean Energy Act of 2018, P.L.2018, c.17, which was signed into law on May 23, 2018, requiring each utility to implement energy efficiency measures to reduce electric usage.
