NJ Legislature to Vote Monday on Crucial Social Justice Bills Spearheaded by Institute

Chambers Will Take Up Voting Rights Restoration and Apprenticeship Legislation

On Monday, December 16, both chambers of the New Jersey Legislature will vote on key social justice legislation spearheaded by the Institute.

The full Senate will vote on S4260 to restore voting rights to 83,000 people on probation and parole. The Institute, with its partners in the 1844 No More campaign, has led the effort to get this historical legislation passed. Among the people whose votes will be restored is Ron Pierce, the Institute’s Democracy & Justice Fellow.

The full Assembly will vote on a slate of apprenticeship bills, based on the work of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, which will expand and diversify the workforce in New Jersey through a robust apprenticeship program. This package of bills will help to reduce the racial wealth gap by increasing educational and workforce development opportunities for those who face traditional barriers to employment.
