NJ STATE BUILDING TRADES COUNCIL ENDORSE BOB MENENDEZ FOR U.S. SENATE

The New Jersey State Building and Construction Trades Council today announced their unanimous endorsement of Bob Menendez for United States Senator.

“Senator Menendez has dedicated his entire career to fighting to expand the middle class, creating goodpaying jobs and growing our economy. He has stood up for the rights of workers and been our champion in the United States Senate,” said William T. Mullen, a former ironworker and leader of Ironworkers Local Union Local 11 and President of the Building Trades Council. “We are proud to stand with Senator Menendez as he has stood for us. It’s absolutely critical we send Bob Menendez back to Washington to keep fighting for us and our families and be the voice for hardworking New Jerseyans in the Senate.”

Senator Bob Menendez has fought for hardworking New Jersey families. He fights for workers’ rights to organize and believes in equal pay for equal work, as well as a livable wage. Senator Menendez has voted to increase the minimum wage and has adamantly resisted efforts in DC to roll back safety standards in the workplace and erode workers’ rights. Senator Menendez supports paid family, sick, and medical leave.

“I have stated previously, we believe our endorsements are especially important this year given the extremely disruptive and partisan political environment dividing the parties and the nation as a whole,” said Council President William T. Mullen. “This divide is making it virtually impossible to effectively deal with the very real problems confronting our nation, such as the need to grow the economy, revitalize our infrastructure, reform our immigration and trade policies, reshape our health care system, and reaffirm America’s position throughout the world.”

The New Jersey State Building and Construction Trades Council coordinates activity and provides resources to 15 affiliated trades unions in the construction industry. It represents 13 Local Building Trades Councils, more than 125 local unions and over 150,000 rank and file members. The Council represents Boilermakers, Bricklayers, Carpenters, Electricians, Elevator Constructors, Painters, Insulators, Iron Workers, Laborers, Operating Engineers, Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons, Pipe Trades, Roofers, Sheet Metal Workers and Teamsters
