NJ WFP blasts abysmal Camden local hiring rates

Statement from Antoinette Miles, interim Director of the NJ Working Families Party, regarding the local hiring data recently released by the City of Camden:

“Thanks to the jobs report released this year, we know that the millions of dollars in corporate tax incentives poured into the city’s largest employers have resulted in few meaningful jobs for Camden’s people. With the August filings, we once again have proof-positive of the abysmal local hiring rates.

What’s equally disappointing is that some of Camden’s largest businesses continue to demonstrate a lack of respect for the law that requires them to disclose the number of Camden jobs they provide. Nearly a year after the passage of this law, we see many of these large corporations are slow to file their jobs reports to City Hall, and there is no enforcement of these guidelines to encourage compliance.

In fact, the City of Camden itself has not even bothered to do what is required by law and disclose how many local residents work for city government. Until the city of Camden can demonstrate accountability to its own people by upholding the law, the multimillion-dollar companies that have benefited so much from operating in this city will continue to feel no responsibility towards this city’s residents.”
