NJ Working Families applauds Donna Pearson on historic win in Cumberland County Commissioners’ race

New Jersey Working Families State Director Sue Altman issued the following statement applauding Donna Pearson on her historic win in her race for a seat on the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners:

Donna Pearson’s unprecedented win in her race for Cumberland County commissioner is a victory for a new way of doing politics in South Jersey, one that relies on working families and not special interests.

Donna Pearson’s campaign was powered by grassroots advocates fighting for a county government that is responsive to their needs – and not the needs of party bosses.

She won a convincing primary victory off the line and without the support of the Democratic Party, in a section of the state where independent Democrats face enormous pressure from the party machine to dissuade them from even filing to run.

Donna’s win was also part of a clean sweep of commissioner seats in Cumberland County, showing that Democrats can win in the second congressional district.

New Jersey Working Families was proud to work with our partners at South Jersey Progressive Democrats to support a strong candidate who will come into office with a mandate to put the interests of people and local communities first.
