NJCA: Asw. Vainieri Huttle Ideal Choice for Sen. Weinberg Successor
In light of Senator Weinberg’s retirement announcement yesterday, NJ Citizen Action releases the following statement:
Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, New Jersey Citizen Action Executive Director:
“Our thanks again to Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg for her years of tireless public service and meaningful advocacy, and all the best in her retirement at her term’s conclusion. Her presence and leadership will be sorely missed in Trenton. To this end, Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle is an ideal choice to fill Senator Weinberg’s considerable shoes, and that is why today New Jersey Citizen Action’s Political Action Committee is endorsing Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle for the District 37 Senate seat.
Another dedicated champion for women’s and workers’ rights, as well as those with disabilities and mental illness, she is well-equipped to pick up the charge from Senator Weinberg and continue the advance of civil rights in New Jersey. Her excellent track record is replete with strong social justice accomplishments, including anti-bullying, LGBTQ rights, combatting human trafficking, equal pay and so much more. Just this year, Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle has introduced and is leading on a multitude of critically important civil rights legislation including the workers’ right to refuse bill, the reproductive freedom act, age discrimination, and a whole package of sexual assault protections, among others. With such an admirable history of putting working families first, the Assemblywoman will uphold and continue the legacy of Senator Weinberg’s voice and seat.”
New Jersey Citizen Action is a statewide advocacy and social service organization that advocates for social, racial and economic justice for all while also meeting the pressing needs of low and moderate income New Jerseyans through education and direct service.
