NJCA Statement on House Impeachment of Donald Trump

New Jersey Citizen Action released the following statement today in response to the U.S. House of Representatives’ impeachment of President Donald Trump.

“We applaud the decision of the House to impeach President Trump for the abuse of power and obstruction of justice and commend the New Jersey Representatives who voted ‘yes’,” said Phyllis Salowe-Kaye, Executive Director of New Jersey Citizen Action. “But we are disappointed and angered by the votes of Representatives Chris Smith and Jeff Van Drew, who voted ‘no’ despite the preponderance of the evidence against the President. A vote against impeachment undermines the very foundation of our democracy. Van Drew, in particular, has by his actions chosen to put his own political fortunes ahead of his duty to the Constitution and the American people.

“We urge the Senate to support these articles and vote to impeach President Trump.”
