NJCA Statement on N.J. Delegation “No” Votes on War Powers Resolution

Trenton– New Jersey Citizen Action released the following statement today condemning New Jersey Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-5), Jeff Van Drew (R-2) and Chris Smith (R-4)  for voting “no” on H.Con.Res. 83, a Concurrent Resolution that requires the President seek public approval for further action against Iran.

“Our Constitution gave Congress the sole responsibility to declare war,” said Dena Mottola Jarborska, Associate Director of New Jersey Citizen Action. “By voting no, Representatives Gottheimer, Van Drew and Smith have abdicated their responsibility to a reckless president who has pushed us to the brink of war without a coherent plan. We thank the other New Jersey Representatives who voted “yes” on the Resolution, which will help ensure we are not dragged into a costly and unnecessary conflict, and that American personnel in the region and Americans throughout the world remain safe and secure.”
