NJDOL: New Jersey Building Service Contracts Act

Please be advised, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) has notified all New Jersey state and local government entities of recent changes in the prevailing wage requirements for New Jersey state agencies with contracts subject to the New Jersey Building Service Contracts Act, which establishes prevailing wages for employees of contractors and subcontractors providing building services in state-owned and state-leased buildings.

These wage and benefit rates are based on determinations made by the U.S. General Services Administration and are available at the Federal Wage Determinations website at beta.SAM.gov.

Required fringe benefits follow the occupational listing. The required health and welfare benefit, which typically increases annually, must be provided in addition to the wage rate. Effective July 5, 2019, the health and welfare benefit was increased to $4.54 per hour or $181.60 per week or $786.93 per month.

Per Section 12:64-2.3 of the New Jersey State Building Service Contracts Act, if a collective bargaining agreement has established a higher rate of compensation than the applicable prevailing wage for building services, workers shall receive the higher rate.
