NJDSC Chairman John Currie Releases Statement on COVID-19 Diagnosis of Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman

The positive result comes days after Congresswoman Watson-Coleman spent time with Republican colleagues during the Capital insurrection who refused to wear masks

TRENTON, NJ — Following the news that Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman has tested positive for COVID-19, New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie has released the following statement:

“It is absolutely unconscionable that Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman, one of the most respected and beloved figures in our party, has been put at risk due to the selfish, illogical and downright despicable refusal by some of her Republican colleagues to wear masks during the Capitol insurrection. These irresponsible actions mirror the way that Republicans have treated the COVID-19 pandemic from the start, from President Trump’s failure to provide any meaningful federal response to local Republicans in our state dabbling in conspiracies, promoting fake miracle cures and opposing public health guidelines. These irresponsible actions have real life or death consequences and this is just another reminder of how completely the Republican Party has failed on this most critical issue.

On behalf of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, I am praying for my friend and our former chairwoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman and I know that she will beat this disease just like she beat cancer. I ask all fellow New Jerseyans to join me in sending our best wishes to our Congresswoman.”
