NJDSC Chairman LeRoy J. Jones Jr. Calls for Immediate Ceasefire, Safe Return of Hostages, and Unhindered Aid Access in Israel-Hamas Conflict

TRENTON, NJ – LeRoy J. Jones Jr., Chairman of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, is issuing an appeal for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, along with a plea for the safe return of hostages, and crucially, unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza and Rafah. Chairman Jones emphasizes the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis that has persisted, causing immense suffering to innocent civilians on both sides.

“The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a deeply rooted and complex issue, has caused immeasurable pain and anguish to the people in the area and abroad for far too long. The human toll of this conflict is staggering, and the suffering of innocent civilians, including women and children, simply cannot be tolerated any longer. It is time for an immediate ceasefire to halt the devastating violence and pave the way for constructive dialogue and negotiation towards a lasting peace. I thank Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democratic leaders for exhibiting the kind of moral clarity in recent days that is especially necessary during times of crisis and conflict.

I believe that it is essential to move towards an immediate cessation of hostilities to end the devastating violence and create space for diplomatic dialogue. The path to a lasting resolution lies in dialogue, understanding, and a commitment to peaceful coexistence. We must collectively work towards de-escalation, recognizing that only through diplomacy can we build a foundation for a sustainable and just peace.

In calling for a ceasefire, we unequivocally also call for the release of all hostages. The taking of hostages is an affront to our humanity, and we implore Hamas to immediately release all hostages taken on October 7.

The humanitarian crisis in the region also demands immediate and worldwide attention, and it is imperative that the international community, including the United Nations and neighboring countries, exert pressure to guarantee unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza and Rafah. Reports of starvation and lack of basic necessities underscore the urgency of allowing aid to reach these areas without hindrance. We cannot ignore the cries of those who are suffering, and we must act swiftly to alleviate their plight.

The NJDSC remains steadfast in our commitment to promoting diplomacy, human rights, and justice on the global stage. We urge all parties involved to prioritize the well-being of innocent civilians, cease hostilities, and facilitate the necessary conditions for aid to reach those in desperate need and extend our support to all efforts that contribute to a swift end to the suffering endured by all people impacted by this crisis. We must collectively strive for a future where peace, justice, and prosperity prevail for all people in the region.”
