NJDSC Chairman Releases Statement on Governor Phil Murphy’s Budget Address

Chairman Jones applauds Governor Murphy’s commitment to working and middle class New Jerseyans

TRENTON, NJ –  On Tuesday, Governor Phil Murphy announced his Fiscal Year 2024 budget proposal, which includes renewing the historic ANCHOR property-tax relief program, making another full pension payment, investing in public schools, and strengthening the middle class. New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman LeRoy J. Jones Jr. is releasing the following statement:

“Six years ago, New Jersey’s state budget was riddled with gimmicks, empty promises, and fiscal mismanagement. Governor Murphy has led our state through challenging times and put New Jersey back on a path to a strong future, turning the financial health of our state around while providing property tax relief to the middle class and investing in what matters most to New Jerseyans.

Governor Murphy’s 2024 budget proposal provides critical investments, cost savings, and tax fairness that demonstrate his continued commitment to middle class families, while also maintaining fiscal responsibility and controls. This budget gives New Jersey the opportunity to build on the success of the past years by continuing to invest in education, small businesses, job creation, our transit system, and providing tax cuts to middle and working class people wherever possible.

The state budget is a collaborative process and I am certain that our Democratic state legislators will work with the administration to make these proposals even better. I am grateful to the Governor for continuing to prioritize the middle class and our most vulnerable populations, and look forward to continuing to work together to keep our state on a path to a stronger, fairer economy for everyone.”
