NJDSC: Ciattarelli Catering to Extremists with Appearance at Rally where Confederate Flag was Displayed

TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie is releasing the following statement on reports that Republican Gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli attended a rally this past weekend where attendees displayed the Confederate flag:

“The Confederate flag is our nation’s most enduring symbol of racism, hatred, violence, and terror and it has absolutely no place in New Jersey, period,” said Chairman Currie. “When an elected official or a political candidate chooses to associate himself with the Confederate flag, he is making a conscious decision to overlook its disgusting history to cater to extremist elements of society. It’s becoming more clear every day that Jack Ciattarelli is making a desperate plea for support from the right-wing, Trump-obsessed base of the Republican Party. New Jersey has consistently rejected this kind of racism and it will do so again next year.”
